ATHENA Lecture

UC Riverside Professor Susan Hackwood will give the 2nd Annual ATHENA Lecture at Riverside City College on Wednesday, March 7.

The ATHENA Lecture was instituted in 2011 as part of the installation and unveiling of an ATHENA of Riverside Wall of Honor in the Salvatore G. Rotella Digital Library and Learning Resource Center. Designed to bring notable women leaders to the community and the college, the lecture is part of a larger women's leadership initiative being developed by RCC and ATHENA International, and complements the annual ATHENA of Riverside recognition and scholarship program.

Hackwood follows ATHENA International founder Martha Maywood Mertz who gave the inaugural RCC ATHENA Lecture last year. She will speak on "Creating the Future - Vision and Values in Leadership."

A professor of Electrical Engineering at UCR, Hackwood also serves as the Executive Director of the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST). CCST advises the state on all aspects of science and technology including energy, information technologies, biotechnology, nanotechnology, stem cell research, healthcare technologies, climate change, disaster prevention technologies, intellectual property, technical workforce development, and education.

ATHENA International and ATHENA of Riverside are non-profit organizations that seek to support, develop, and honor women leaders, inspire women to reach their full potential, and create balance in leadership worldwide.. ATHENA of Riverside recognizes outstanding local women leaders in such fields as science, business, education and public service, and awards several scholarships each year to college students.

The 2012 ATHENA Lecture at Riverside City College is scheduled for 4 pm. Admission is free. Parking is available in the parking garage adjacent to the Digital Library and Learning Resource Center. More information can be found here.
