Women, Economic Empowerment, and Social Change

Known for changing the economic landscape for women in South Africa, Dr. Wendy Luhabe has been recognized as one of the top 50 most influential social entrepreneurs in the world. Dr Luhabe founded South Africa's first women investment portfolio, providing capital to women-owned businesses in South Africa with a R120 million private equity fund, the first to be listed on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange.

Secretary of State Hilary Clinton recently appointed Dr. Luhabe to the International Council of Women's Business Leadership, where she will provide advice and assistance in the formulation of U.S. policy for multilateral and bilateral negotiations, business outreach and commercial diplomacy pertaining to economic empowerment of women. She will discuss the power of women to change the international economic landscape.
