Report on the Anatolian Festival
Doug Bowen attended the Anatolian Festival last weekend in Orange County. It was very impressive. The entrance featured a long hallway with the history of the region written on the walls both in English and Turkish. The number of cultures who have called this area of the world home is remarkable. The hallway also included people at each point of cultural change dressed in the costume of that time. Inside there were large facades representing many famous buildings and places in Turkey. There were also food booths, coffee and tea houses, book shops, travel agents, jewelry, art, and business information available. Many of the main cities of Turkey had a pavilion advertising their special niche. Doug especially liked the walnut paste snack from the city of Burdur. There was also live music and folk dancing from the different regions of Turkey. There was even a demonstration of the famous whirling dervishes. The weather was beautiful and the festival was very well attended which meant that the lines for everything got longer and longer as the day went on.
