Performance
Riverside will go from blonde to green as Shrek the Musical takes over
the Landis Auditorium at Riverside City College. Coming off a successful
run of Legally Blonde, Performance Riverside will present Shrek the
Musical over two weekends, beginning November 7.
Based
on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a
TONY Award-winning fairy-tale adventure featuring new songs from Jeanine
Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline or Change) and a
sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Everyone's favorite ogre
brings his beloved friends to life on stage, proving there's more to the
story than meets the ears.
This
musical tells the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a
life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking donkey and a feisty
princess who resists rescue. Throw in a short tempered bad guy, a cookie
with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve
got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on
hand and his name is Shrek.
The
performance presents a trove of creative opportunities including
costumes, sets, and puppets (there is a fire-breathing dragon after
all).
“This musical is one the whole family should see together,” said Jodi Julian, Associate Professor of Theater Arts.
A
Performance Riverside/RCC Fine & Performing Arts production, it’s
directed by Gary Krinke and choreographed by Renee Liskey and stars
Stephanie Renne Wall as Fiona, Josh Tangerman as Shrek, Charles Allen
McCoy as Donkey and Johnny Fletcher as Lord Farquuad. For tickets and
show time information, call the Landis Box Office at 951-222-8100 or visit at www.performanceriverside.org
